About WINDPOWER 2010
Each year AWEA hosts the WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition, which is the premier wind energy event in North America, which last year hosted over 23,000 attendees and nearly 1,300 exhibitors. With similar numbers expected in Dallas, WINDPOWER will showcase exciting opportunities for new players to enter the wind market and bring wind leaders together to address America’s economic, energy, and climate challenges.

2009 broke all previous records with the installation of nearly 10,000 MW of new generating capacity (enough to serve over 2.4 million homes). This growth expands the nation’s wind fleet by 39% and brings total wind power generating capacity in the U.S. to over 35,000 MW. This new generating capacity will avoid an estimated 62 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to taking 10.5 million cars off the road, and generates enough to power the equivalent of 9.7 million homes.
Why is WINDPOWER 2010 being held in Dalas this year?
Since Texas took the lead in wind power plants in 2006, a combination of a good market environment, great wind potential and good policy has propelled it to new heights. At the end of 2009, Texas had over 9,400 megawatts of wind power capacity installed. If Texas were a country, it would rank sixth in the world. Because of its position as a leader in the U.S., it is the hub of a great deal of business activity. All over the state, wind companies are bringing new energy jobs and opportunity. As national leaders strive to set energy policy, Texas is a great example of what a strong renewable energy goal, with aggressive, binding targets, can accomplish.
